Recreate autodiscover virtual directory

Hallo together,

because autodiscover wasn't working proberly i tried to delete and recreate the autodiscover virtual directory:

Remove:

C:\Windows\system32>Remove-AutodiscoverVirtualDirectory -Identity " SERVER1\Autodiscover (Default Web Site)"

Recreate:
[PS] C:\Windows\system32>New-AutodiscoverVirtualDirectory -WebsiteName " Default Web Site"
-WindowsAuthentication $true - 02. BasicAuthentication $true

Then i get the following error:

The Active Directory object for virtual directory 'IIS://server.domain.com/W3SVC/1/ROOT/Autodiscover' on
'SERVER' could not be created. This might be because the object already exists in Active Directory.
Remove the object from Active Directory, then re-create it. + CategoryInfo : InvalidOperation: (DAEDALUS\Autodiscover (Default Web Site):ADObjectId)
[New-AutodiscoverVirtualDirectory], InvalidOperationException + FullyQualifiedErrorId :
804814BA,Microsoft.Exchange.Management.SystemConfigurationTasks.NewAutodiscoverVirtualDirectory

However, there is no autodiscover virtual directory in IIS, i tried to find it via Metabase Explorer with no success.

It is an Exchange 2010 std SP1 with w2k8 R2 in a two-server DAG (may be that is the problem).
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

This issue can occur if Autodiscover object is not removed completely in Metabase. To troubleshoot the issue, please locate the IIS configuration file and manually remove Autodiscover object. The IIS configuration files are located in ApplicationHost.config. This file is located in %windir%\system32\inetsrv\config. You can back up the file to other location first. Then, found the <application path=Autodiscover> entry and remove them.
