We have internally 2 cas servers setup in a casarray. Internally if you go to casarray.domain.com everything works fine.
I have even enabled redirection so that if you go to casarray.domain.com it redirects you to https://casarray.domain.com/owa
using these instructions from brian desmond.com
http://briandesmond.com/blog/redirecting-owa-urls-in-exchange-2010/

the issue comes when coming from the outside, i have nat'd our external ip to the internal ip of casarray.domain.com. but it redirects it to the casarray.domain.com/owa and obviously this doesnt work externally.

any help!

hi

how have you configured your dns have split dns or just 1.

another thing, why not to use your casarray name as external? that would work from anywhere.

atleast i did it like that, both external and internal urls are casarray external fqdn and sertificates fqdns points to that same casarray name.

plain and simple.

atleats works for me.

The problem is that you have used a hard URL for the redirection.

The problem outlined in that blog posting you have linked to is not something I have ever come across, because I never open port 80 inside. Users have to enter https, if they can't learn, tough. Where it has got tricky, I have put a redirect file on the public web site, (so the users can go to www.example.com/mail and it takes them to https://owa.example.com/owa ).

As indicated above, you either need to take off the redirection or make it so the redirection only occurs on https. If you lose the requirement to redirect http to https traffic, then redirect file in the root just needs to redirect to /owa, it doesn't matter what the URL is.

I also believe that using the CAS array externally is either not supported or at least not recommended. I have avoid the name resolving externally in my notes for the configuration of the feature, so I have read or experienced that somewhere. I think it will cause problems with Outlook Anywhere, as the host name for a native MAPI connection resolves then fails.

sembee,

Maybe there is some confusion, i do not have a casarray setup externallly. The internal dns name of the casarray is cascarray.company.com, and this does work ok internally.

The external dns name is something like webmail.company.com, this is pointed to my external ip, which is nat'd to the internal ip of casarray.company.com(192.168.1.10).

if i go to https://webmail.company.com/owa everything works 100%.

basically it looks like the redirection of going to https://webmail.company.com to https://webmail.company.com/owa is not working correctly.

also the redirection of going from http to https is not working either. our users should be able to go to http://webmail.company.com or https://webmail.company.com and it should redirect it to the https://webmail.company.com/owa

ya those are the instructions i followed originally. (brian desmond), and the redirection works internally, but when coming from the outside it doesnt work.

whats your external url has been set? as it has to resolv internally also. i assume you have there atm casarray.domain.com and should be your externalurl instead, and then make dns record to point external url to your casarray ip. and it should resolve your problems.

In your original question you said that it was casarray.domain.com that was being used, now you are saying webmail. The confusion is caused by you. Which are you using? If the casarray host is not resolving outside, but you are using something else outside, then the use of the CAS array isn't really relevant, other than they are sharing the NLB configuration - if appropriate.

Personally I would undo whatever you did for the redirection, and confirm things work correctly internally and externally without it.

external url: webmail.compnay.com

internal dns name: casarray.company.com (this is setup this way so that when users configure outlook they just point it to casarray).

my only issue now is as i stated above.

" basically it looks like the redirection of going to https or http://webmail.company.com and having it redirect to https://webmail.company.com/owa is not working correctly."
