Outlook 2003 Crashes whenever receiving email from one person with no subject

Not open for further replies.

So I have a problem. I built a new PC, installed XP, and installed Office 2003 STD. I receive emails from a friend, a lot of times she does not include a subject.

My outlook crashes ONLY when receiving an email with no subject from her. The email still downloads, but outlook crashes.

I have tried Detect and Repair, and also uninstalled Outlook and reinstalled it. I did not have this problem on my previous computer.

I use Avast Internet Security. I have tried installing with the AV off and Send/Receive with AV off. Still not working.

I have also created new PSTs with new Acc Details, and the problem still occurs. I have also disabled Exchange Extensions property pages as a possible fix via Add-Ins. The only one left is Avast add-in. No Com Add-Ins.

What type of email account is configured in Outlook? E.g. POP/IMAP/Exchange

Verify what happens if you send an email without subject to yourself.

You may start Outlook in safe mode and then ask your friend to send email to you without subject to check if Outlook crashes.

Click on Start > Run > Outlook /safe and hit on Enter.

Note: There is a space between Outlook and /

It still errors if receiving the email in safe mode.

It is a POP3/SMTP account

Non encrypted. I will try to send the email and see what happens.

Let us know if you tried sending email to yourself without the subject in the message.

You may create Outlook new profile and configure the same email account to check if issue persists.

I tried to send an email with no subject, and it works fine.

I deleted the profile and pst. Resetup the account. It is exactly the same. Whenever I receive an email with no subject, Outlook downloads it, then crashes.

I can send emails with no subject perfectly fine, and can view it in sent messages.

Please help as there is this moron who keeps sending me emails with no subject even though I ask her not to.

Have saved her email address in contacts folder? If so delete and then try receiving her email.

Re-Create the contact and then try to receive email.

It is whenever I receive an email with no subject. I sent emails to myself from another account, and it still crashed.

I think it may be fixed now. I went through all of the contacts and I found 2 that had invalid characters or spaces in the email address. I deleted those contacts and everything seems to be working now.
