Hi,

We are in the process of upgrading form Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010. We have only moved one user (me, using Outlook 2010) and all email seems to be working fine but Automatic Replies (out of office) does not. We get the following error message " Your automatic reply settings cannot be displayed because the server is currently unavailable. Try again later" If I log on to our Terminal Server I can use Outlook 2002 to see my out of office information without a problem.

When I do CTRL Right click and Test E-Mail AutoConfiguration, https://mailservername.domain.co.uk/Autodiscover/xml found through SCP then https://mailservername.domain.co.uk/Autodiscover/xml starting then failed (0x80072F0C)

I am also getting RPC errors in the Event Log on our Exchange server (ID 2152) I have added the RPC to the allowed list on the Windows firewall.

Can you please let me know how resolve this so we can complete our roll out of Exchange 2010. If you need any more information then please let me know.

The availability service is what drives OOTO, and uses the autodiscover system. In most cases if autodiscover fails, so does availability tasks.

However the error code you have posted is usually caused by enabling require client certificates on one of the virtual directories. Have you attempted to modify the SSL settings on the server? Have you switched the self signed certificate for a commercial one?

Hi Simon,

The certificate on the server is the one that was self generated by Exchange during install/setup. We have not obtained a commercial cert yet. The new server is not available outside our network yet. I haven't modified it just viewed it.

Hi Simon,

Additionally, I have checked the SSL settings and the Default Web site, Autodiscover, ECP, EWS, Exchange and OWA are all set to Require SSL and Client Certificate - Accept.

You have changed something from the defaults.

Client Certificate support should not be set to accept, it should be set to Ignore. Having client ceritifcate support enabled will cause problems.

Hi Simon,

I have now changed these to Ignore. This has not changed the situation. Automatic replies still don't work and neither does the Test outlook seetings.

What else should I do to resovle this. It has been frustrating me for a long time.

Did you run iisreset after making the change?

Where did you change it? On the site itself, or on the virtual directory?

If you are getting the same error code then something is still looking for client certificates, or not accepting the certificate correctly.

Unfortuantely this feature either works, or it doesn't. That can make it annoying to fix.

Hi Simon,

I chnaged it on the Default Web Site and on the virtual directories under that for Autodiscover, ECP, EWS, Exchange and OWA.

I had restarted IIS but have now restarted the server. on the test e-mail autoconfig I know get

https://mailservername.domain.co.uk/Autodiscover/xml found through SCP

https://mailservername.domain.co.uk/Autodiscover/xml starting

Autodiscover request completed with http status code 500

https://mailservername.domain.co.uk/Autodiscover/xml failed (0x80004005)

Out of office still fails.

Checking the obvious - the URL that you are using does resolve internally to the correct place?

You have checked the server is configured correctly -so if you have implemented public folder distribution of the OAB, you have a public folder store in Exchange and there is a public folder store selected on the mailbox databases/s?

The error code is rather generic, so a solid reason isn't always possible.

https://mailservername.domain.co.uk/Autodiscover/xml found through SCP

https://mailservername.domain.co.uk/Autodiscover/xml starting

Autodiscover request completed with http status code 500

https://mailservername.domain.co.uk/Autodiscover/xml failed (0x80004005)

Is that a copy/paste?

It should be /Autodiscover/Autodiscover.xml at the end and not just /xml like it says up above. The ExternalURL of the AutoDiscover virtual directory needs to be fixed if it really does say that.

I completely missed that. Must stop posting late at night.

Hi,

Sorry my mistake, it should be

https://mailservername.domain.co.uk/Autodiscover/autodiscover.xml found through SCP

https://mailservername.domain.co.uk/Autodiscover/autodiscover.xml starting

Autodiscover request completed with http status code 500

https://mailservername.domain.co.uk/Autodiscover/autodiscover.xml failed (0x80004005)

If I navigate to the url and enter my username and password then i get the following response -

<?xml version=" 1.0" encoding=" utf-8" ?>

- <Autodiscover xmlns=" http://schemas.microsoft.com/exchange/autodiscover/responseschema/2006" >

- <Response>

- <Error Time=" 08:37:39.1373988" Id=" 1120656365" >
<ErrorCode>600</ErrorCode>
<Message>Invalid Request</Message>
<DebugData />
</Error>
</Response>
</Autodiscover>

I hope this helps in narrowing down the problem.

Hi,

Does anyone have anymore information on this, please. Waiting for an update.

Hi-

The Error 600 when you browse to the page is normal. That's indicative of it working properly.

If it was me, given how much tinkering has been done, I'd use the Reset Virtual Directory wizard in the EMC and reset the autodiscover vdir and start over.

Hi Brain,

Is there a away to get to the Reset Virtual Directory if we haven't upgraded to SP1 yet.

I have been trying to apply SP1 but some of the Prerequisites are not installing e.g. .Net 3.5, Speach Server .....

Hi,

First run the below command to remove Autodiscover VD:
Remove-AutodiscoverVirtualDirectory –Identity " cas-servername\Autodiscover (Default Web Site)"

Then recreate it:
New-AutodiscoverVirtualDirectory -WebsiteName " Default Web Site" -WindowsAuthentication $true -BasicAuthentication $true

Please restart IIS and ensure the authentication method is identical as previous configuration.

Thanks

Allen

Hi,

I eventually got SP1 instaleld yesterday afternoon. I have now Reset the Autodiscover Virtual Directory. I also have in place as of a few days ago a local DNS entry for autodiscover.domain.co.uk - this was causing a certificate warning on outlook start up - this has now gone after SP1.

Test E-Mail AutoConfiguration now passes (Thank you) However, Out of office still gives the error " Your automatic reply settings cannot be displayed because the server is currently unavailable. Try again later"

So progress but not quite resolved.

Hi,

Additionally Out office is NOT accesible through OWA.

Hi,

Since the OOF also didn't work in OWA, that should be the issue of the mailbox issue not Web Services under IIS.

Now please delete the rule of the OOF based on the below steps:

Clear OOF Rule in the mailbox:
========================
1. Turn off OOF on a problem user and close Outlook
2. Use MFCMapi tool to logon the problem user"s mailbox (by using Online Mode profile)
3. Expand Root Container->Top of Information Store
4. Right click Inbox folder and click Open Associated contents table
5. Delete following messages if exist:

a. Message class == IPM.Rule.Message
0x65EB001E == Microsoft Exchange OOF Assistant
0x65EC001E == Microsoft.Exchange.OOF.InternalSenders.Global

b. Message class == IPM.Note.Rules.OofTemplate.Microsoft

c. Message class == IPM.Rule.Message
0x65EB001E == MSFT:TDX OOF Rules

d. Message class == IPM.Rule.Message
0x65EB001E == Microsoft Exchange OOF Assistant
0x65EC001E == Microsoft.Exchange.OOF. AllExternalSenders.Global

e. Message class == IPM.Note.Rules.ExternalOOFTemplate.Microsoft

f. Message class == IPM.ExtendedRule.Message
0x65EB001E == Microsoft Exchange OOF Assistant
0x65EC001E == Microsoft.Exchange.OOF.KnownExternalSenders.Global

6. After that, please start Outlook and configure OOF for the user. Please check whether the issue persists.

Thanks

Allen

In the meantime I will work through the above, but note point 1 is impossible as you can't get to OOF!
