Hi,

I am really struggling with this problem and have read all the available posts that may be similar, however I have been unable to find a solution and have spent days and days on it.

I have an Exchange 2010 SP1 setup with 2 CAS/HT servers (configured as a CAS array) and 2 mailbox servers (configured as a DAG) with 3 mailbox databases. All are behind a TMG 2010 firewall. The setup is loosly a hosted configuration (not HMC exactly), but there are clients in multiple OUs each with their own address lists, GALs and OABs. Autodiscover is setup with the redirection method - i.e. autodiscover.client.com is a cname for autodiscover.ourdomain.com, which listens on port 80 and does a 302 redirect to https://ourdomain.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml.

All has been working perfectly until recently.

A couple of weeks ago I uninstalled a 3rd mailbox server as it was no longer needed. Since roughly this time (can't precicely pin it down to this change), some clients have been complaining that Outlook auto configuration does not work, and presents an error 'An encrypted connection to your mail server is not available'.

Annoyingly some accounts work perfectly (including my main account), others dont (like my test account).

When using the outlook Test Email Configuration an error 0x800c8203 appears for my test account, but is fine on mine.

When using the Microsoft online test website - it all works fine and passes - for ALL accounts.

The Best Practice Analyzer does not show any configuration errors.

I have made the settings changes to not require encrypted RPC connections, so that Outlook 2007 on XP etc (should) work.

I had some warnings that some users homeMTA property was set to an item in the ad 'Deleted Items' container, which I have fixed by setting to point correctly to the right mailbox server. This hasnt fixed the problem.

If anyone could help, it would be most appreciated.

Best regards,

Ben

With further testing with Fiddler I see that when configuring a new outlook profile it correctly picks up the autodiscover redirect, but gets the following XML response:
<?xml version=" 1.0" encoding=" utf-8" ?> <Autodiscover xmlns=" http://schemas.microsoft.com/exchange/autodiscover/responseschema/2006" > <Response> <Error Time=" 09:46:43.8553454" Id=" 4064754636" > <ErrorCode>500</ErrorCode> <Message>The e-mail address cannot be found.</Message> <DebugData /> </Error> </Response> </Autodiscover>

Hi,

Unfortunately I have previously seen those posts and it has not solved the problem.

What I have now discovered is that Outlook no longer shows any address lists and Global address list is empty. I went through and removed the custom AD permissions I put in (to ensure each client only sees their own address list and GAL), expecting all the address lists to appear for everyone (as each client has their own AL and GAL), but still nothing - which has puzzled me greatly. I cant see why Outlook isnt finding any ALs or GALs (even the default ones, which I put the original permissions back on). I assume autodiscover is generating the above error because it cant locate a user from an address list.
