I would like to set Outlook 2010 to backup the pst file. Do you know if I am able to tell it to create the backup on a NAS drive (we have a Buffalo Terastation NAS). If so, would the NAS need to be mapped to a drive letter, or can I have it back up via the UNC path? Thanks
You're using the Microsoft backup utility? I don't recall offhand if it backs up to a network drive, but I recommend using a batch file, which will backup to a network drive. O you could use a combination of both.
The utility works fine with Outlook 2010 - run the fixit and you won't need to edit the registry.
It's easiest to run the batch file before Outlook opens. You can actually use the batch file to copy the PST and then open Outlook. It's harder to copy the PST file on shutdown because the batch file needs to shut Outlook down and that's harder to do in code.
I need a solution that runs with the least user interaction, or else it won't happen. I think I'll need to look at using the MS utility. It seems like it allows me to select a network location, at least on my Outlook 2007 computer. Not sure if it will be NAS friendly though, I've heard some backup apps do not like NAS. Thanks
