Let me sit down to write this...

Okay...

I use 2010 outlook on my company's computer. (Run's W7)

The company uses an exchange server.

When away from my desk I access email via owa.

The outlook UI for both my desktop and OWA versions are the same (when using IE-8).

I like that. In other words, when logged in via the company OWA and when using IE, I can move around the OWA outlook as if I am using my desktop version. (Of course this is not true if I am logged in via chrome or FF (latest versions)).

On my personal computer at home I am also using Windows 7)

I use outlook 2013 on that computer. (The outlook UI of 2013 and 2010 - desktop versions are slightly different. 2013 has a few things arranged differently but for the most part, they are the same.

In order to access my personal email, I have signed up for a hosted exchange account through microsoft ($4.00) a month.

When I log into my hosted exchange account I am dishearten that find that the online version of outlook looks and functions nothing like the desktop version (this is not what I experience when logging into the my company's owa).

From what I can tell, the online outlook (hosted exchange account) doesn't display the home, send/receive, folder or view tabs at the top like the desktop version. The task functioning is very scaled back and doesn't seem to integrate with the calendar. The calendar is very plain. I don't see anyway to customized the look and feel or layout. All the classic outlook functionalities found in either 2010 or 2013 desktop are not there). Am I missing something or forgot to install something in my account?

When I signed up for hosted exchange I was under the impression that outlook desktop and outlook online would function the same. At least that is how microsoft sold the service via text and screenshots...

Clearly the person who wrote the web copy is either delusional or was given a wide berth when it came to accuracy. :)

What they were trying to say is that you'd have all the email, calendar, contacts, task accessible from everywhere - Outlook on any computer or OWA. Feature-wise, functionally is not quite the same but the important stuff should work. We just happened to be talking with the product team about Search folders - they were removed from owa 2013 - when you posted and I shared your comments with them.

Outlook and OWA haven't really looked alike for a couple of versions - Exchange 2007 had a more traditional toolbar - but yes, OWA 2013 is bad. At one time the Exchange product group's goal was to make OWA look and act like Outlook as much as possible - they clearly gave up on that goal with OWA 2013.

That is extremely disappointing.

I am still confused why when I log into my company's OWA service (via onsite exchange server) I get a online UI that is nearly 100% the same as my desktop version outlook (both 2007 and 2010 after upgrade). I should check to see what exchange server software they are running. It may indeed be 2007.

Well I guess in theory the only time I will have to use owa is when I don't have my laptop with me. So I guess I can manage. But I do appreciate you mentioning my comments to them. Strange how at times new UI's seemed to be launched without the user in mind.

Thanks for your reply...now I know I'm not crazy.
