do you have more than one pst file? More than one contacts folder?

no, there is only the one

I ran a search to be sure... but it's just that one and it's not updated with my address book in outlook....

dunno if it's important but I use outlook 2007 SP3 - my question for outlook 2010 is to help a friend who does not speak enough English to come here !

I have not checked on her PCs yet - hers might be updated

but mine is not !!!!

What type of email account do you have configured? Double check in File, Account Settings (Outlook 2010) oe Tools, Account Settings in Outlook 2007.

To see where the folder is, go to the Folder list (Ctrl+6) and find the contacts folder. You'll see which data file it is in and can check the data file location on your hard drive if you right click on the data file and choose properties.

hello,

I'm trying it all on outlook 2007 as I do not have daily access to my friend's computers

I found where outlook is storing the data files [C/users/Myname/AppData/local/Microsoft/outlook] - but there is no contacts file there

my email account is POP3

and I do not understand how to go to the folder list : (Ctrl+6) gives me nothing - where should I be when I use this keyboard shortcut ?

I hope I am not testing your patience too much....

In Outlook, the default view is the Mail folders. If you press Ctrl+6, it will switch othe folders list, which shows calendar and contacts in the list too.

It's possible you are either already in the folder list or didn't notice the change - if you see all of these folders (and any custom folders you created) then you are in the folder list.

To move your accounts, do this:

- start - run - regedit - search for: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles\Outlook and export it.

After you import it on to the new PC, you will have the enter the passwords for those e-mail accounts.

The Contacts on the hard drive (last picture) are used by Windows Mail (or whatever they call it now :)), not Outlook. If you open that Contacts folder and click Export (may be hidden under a caret icon), you can export as CSV or vCards and import into Outlook.

CSV is easier to import, but if you only have a few (or they have photos you want to keep in the contact), you can drag the vcards to the Outlook contact's folder - they'll open and you can click Save and Close to save them in Outlook ( i have a macro at bulk import vcards that automates this). Then they will be visible in both the Contacts folder and Address book in the other screenshots.

yes, I can export from as CSV from this contacts folder which is not used by outlook....

on properties it only says : \\Personal Folders.....

Outlook keeps its contacts in the pst file - if you created the account in Outloko 2010 or 2013, the pst should be in My Documents\Outlook Files folder.

Go to File tab, Account Settings - select Data Files tab. Select the one called Personal folders then click the Open File location button - this will open Windows Explorer to the location where the pst file is stored on your hard drive.

In Outlook 2007 and older the default location is under User directory, in local app data. Try typing or pasting

%localappdata%\Microsoft\outlook

in the address bar of windows explorer - press enter. It will open the folder to the default location in windows 7/8 and should work in XP too.
