Tasks - the missing link... for me at least.

Hi all

I love Outlook Tasks.

I customize the list view all sorts of ways to suit my needs and run it alongside my calendar to great effect.

The only thing that has continued to bug me in not being able to edit in the reading pane - is there still no solution to this?

And now a new desire...

Email Messages and Calendar Appointments allow attachments to be shown at the top of the template, above the body and in Messages can be previewed in the reading pane. This seems to be because they can be formatted as HTML, whereas Tasks cannot, is there anyway to make Tasks allow this attachment docking and preview function?

I have tried modifying the ribbon but cannot find the format as HTML command available.

My current workaround is that I can forward the task to myself as an email, file it in a folder structure in my emails that corresponds to the folder structure in my Tasks and filter my task list to add the email into the task first, but now I lose the edit facility and to edit the Task I have to forward it to myself again and unflagging the previous one and flag the new one (I guess I can automate this 2nd part with rules on receiving the email).

This is really pissing me off as it is so close to perfect but not. : (

Can anyone help?

Many thanks, Jack

For tasks, no. You can enable incell editing and edit some fields in place...

That was recently added to calendar. I believe it is coming to Tasks, but i don't know when. Until then, tasks use RTF message body and attachments are embedded.

Thanks very much Diane.

If they add that feature to Tasks soon I'd be made up.

Where do I enable in cell editing and can I mess with fields?

In-cell editing is only available in list views (which is the common view for tasks) - View tab, View Settings - other settings button.

if you see click here to add a new task, it is enabled.

in-cell editing is supported for all item types, as long as you use a list view, but not all fields in every item type support it.
