I am trying to copy my outlook data to copy to an external hard drive and load on my new computer. I have NOT changed the path location or names for my outlook data. But when I try to save a copy of my outlook data, I get an error message "can not copy outlook: the path is too deep"

Please help!

You only copy the data files (the *.pst's) within Explorer and paste them to whatever folder on the external.

Path's are not involved

How do I find these .pst files listed individually? I get to c:\documents and settings\Nancy\local settings\application data\Microsoft\data At that point, I am presented with the Outlook loga wich is supposedly representing a file that contains all of the .pst files. When I try to click the logo, it says that you have to search for the program that created the file and open it in that program. Which of course just sends me back to my Outloook program.

The correct path should be C:\Documents and Settings\Nancy\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

You have the option in Windows Explorer to display file types turned off. The file with the Office logo is most likely the PST. Just one PST. When you hover over it, the tooltip should say "Office Data File". That's the file you can copy to another folder or drive for backup purposes. Just right-click it and drag it to the folder where you want to store it, choosing "Copy" when you release the mouse button. Make sure Outlook is closed when you do that.

Has this issue been resolved?

I have the same problem with a large 14 GB PST file. Outlook is closed. I open the folder where the PST resides, click/copy the PSt, then paste it where I want the copy. After about 8 minutes I get the messsage "Cannot copy Outlook. The path is too deep". This is on an XP machine with Outlook 2010 32 bit and the problem is consistent.

Thanks!

I got the same message recently and installed "Long Path Tool" program which solved the problem.

I am using a software called Long Path Tool for such errors and it is working like charm, i have no problems in copying or extracting anything anywhere.
